HISTORY OF ANDRONIKOS CANAVAS

Each canava has a long history dating back to the 19th century. It was initially built as a winery in 1880 in which they produced the famous Vinsanto wine of Santorini that was usually exported to Russia and Malta. This amazing winery  has been recently renovated keeping the traditional exterior but adding the elegance and sophistication of contemporary living to its interior.

Every year from early August the family of Anapliotis stayed at the canavas house to prepare their spaces and barrels. At the beginning of September, they harvested and carried the grapes to the canvas. They were spreading the portion of the grapes to the sun on Vinsanto. The “stables” (the remnants of the grapes) were collected so that the cauldron in the end would produce the famous “Raki' ' and make the tsikoudia. 

The workers in the vineyards and the canyons worked “sun with sun”,  from morning till the sunset and every evening they gathered in the canava where the housewife prepared food for  all of them, with the more common “vaneemisio” (meat bacon with potatoes).  The wines made in the canvas were Brooks of Santorini (red strong wine), night (white mild wine) and the famous Vinsanto (sweet red wine).

SUITES & CANAVAS

All canavas feature an open space plan with a large bedroom, a detached living room and a private luxurious bathroom. The outdoor area adds to the overall laidback feeling as it features a private pool and some comfortable sofas for an easy everyday living. The vaulted ceiling of the canava along with the discreet  lighting and the natural materials used throughout the residence  create an harmonious atmosphere that can transport the guest to another dimension of comfort, inspiration and relaxation.

EARTH SUITES

The name earth derives from the earthy materials used throughout the suite. The stone floor is crafted from the best craftsmen of Greece while the wall textures exhibit subtle variations in colour and shades producing a remarkable natural effect. The beautiful wood works complement the overall natural ambience  and the whole scenery transports you to a magical journey in time and space.  

Each Earth suite has a total surface of 30 sq. m and features a queen size bed with a detached living room with two comfortable sofas. A third person can be easily accommodated at the living room while the private bathroom offers  an authentic style that embraces the guest with its curved lines 

The outdoor patio offers ample space for sunbathing, relaxing and daydreaming. The private pool is the perfect way to cool off  on a hot summer day while the upper terrace will give you a glimpse into the beauty of the Aegean sea and the wonderful Santorini’s sunset.

CANAVA SUITE

The Canava Suite preserves the initial dome of the winery as a powerful trace of traditional architecture and is enhanced by modern  fiber lighting. Materials used throughout the residence follow the Earth color palette of the Santorinian landscape and its textures, creating a warm and intimate space with harmonious dialogues between the tradition and the future.

With a total of 40 sq.m. space, It features an ample open plan with a large bedroom with a separate comfortable living room that can easily accommodate two more guests. The outdoor patio offers ample space for sunbathing, relaxing and daydreaming. The private pool is the perfect way to cool off  on a hot summer day while the upper terrace will give you a glimpse into the beauty of the Aegean sea and the wonderful Santorini’s sunset.

At Andronikos Canaves a customized breakfast is prepared everyday including traditional and contemporary Greek dishes, prepared with the best local products and fresh ingredients found in the market each day, served family style on the beautiful patios of each Canava.

Though uncomplicated, the food of the islands is nevertheless sophisticated in its strong palates and rich flavors. Simple but never plain mediterranean cuisine is remarkable for its health benefits and ingenious combination of flavors and palates. Some wonderful local wine or a fresh lemonade is the perfect way to welcome our guests on a long hot summer day.

Each canava features a large patio with a private pool. The patio is complemented with a sofa and a lounge bed in order to give you a  comfortable and laid back feeling during your stay. TOP BEACHES

Santorini has several beaches , each unique in it’s own way.Should you prefer a nice quiet black sand beach to relax ,enjoy a coffee, a brunch or even dinner ? Or you might prefer something more loud where you can go party and have some refreshing cocktails ? There’s a place for everyone !

Perivolos

Perivolos is with Perissa the longest black sand beach on the island. It is very well organised and one of the most crowded beaches.

Kamari
